SAM DEE LAYNE

Sam Dee Layne, age 77, passed away October 21, 2023 in the comfort of his home, preceded in death by his beloved wife Janice. Born March 6, 1946 to Glen and Thelma Layne in Dowagiac, Michigan, Sam’s early years were spent growing up amongst the diverse cultures, wildlife and flora common to Southern Florida. Sam’s first job after graduating in 1965 was on the famed “Alligator Alley” road project connecting Florida’s west coast to the east coast thru the untouched Everglades swamp. That would prove to be a fore gleam of the many interesting job positions Sam would have throughout his later life, predominantly in the copper mining industry.

As all friends of Sam know, his life was a shared journey. From the early marriage of Sam and Janice, wherever their work or travels took them they made friends, shared hobbies such as a love of antique cars, home building and remodeling and many a good story, meal and laughter. They sought by word and example to encourage the next generations, nephews Ethan (Justenne) and Austin Stevenson (Tauni) of the value, love and joy they found in their family.

Sam and Janice’s most treasured pursuit was the time spent as volunteers time in the bible education work as Jehovah’s Witnesses sharing the bibles uplifting promises of a world that will soon be free from all sadness and loss. On their behalf, we extend an open invitation to their memorial services held here at the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 639 Hill Street, Saturday November 11, 2023 at 1:00 PM.
